Founded in 1987, Sarku Japan opened its first store in Boston, Massachusetts.
Our goal was to introduce fresh "made-to-order" Japanese
cuisine with high quality ingredients that provide a healthy nutritious
meal alternative to traditional fast food. We were the first to
establish the concept of Teppanyaki-style, freshly cooked Japanese
cuisine in food courts of major regional shopping centers and we
still are the only fast food operator to offer this distinguishing
feature as a national standard.
Such was the success of the company that within four years, Sarku
Japan opened more than 25 locations in 8 states: Massachusetts,
Florida, Georgia, New Hampshire, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Colorado and
Texas. By 1992, Sarku Japan had expanded beyond 50 locations with
stores throughout the mid-west and eastern seaboard states.
We opened our 100th store on the west coast in 1999 and continue
our western expansion initiative having since opened new stores
in Arizona, California, Colorado, Oregon, Utah and Washington during
the last 5 years.
In April 2002, Sarku Japan relocated to our new head office in
Markham, Ontario, featuring a centralized and fully integrated back-office
support center which supplies all the support needs of the field
operations. The head office facility has significant expansion capability
to meet the future needs of the company for many years to come.
Currently, the Sarku Japan family has an ever growing network of
almost 200 stores in 36 states with more openings occurring throughout
the year all across the country.
